"A Lover's Quarrel"

I've been studying the book of Jeremiah for a while now. My husband and I began reading it together every night before bed about a month and a half ago, and I decided to take a little bit of a slower approach to reading it as well during my daily reading. Wow. What a awesome, heart-wrenching portrait of God's incomparable love for His people. Not just His people in that story, but His people for all of time!
If you are like me at all, then you're probably familiar with certain passages from this book, like the popular "For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord..." verse from chapter 29, but also like me, you may not be familiar with the whole story. The story of a people who forget their first love, the gracious and passionate Lord who has blessed them and pursued them relentlessly, even in their adultery. The story of a reluctant messenger given a bleak and terrifying message to share from a mighty God. A messenger who is quite honest about his less than glorifying feelings regarding this message and even the God who gave it to him. You might not have ever seen the love of God portrayed the way it is in this book. We see Him as a scorned lover, a husband whose bride had forsaken him for prostitution -  for cheap, false satisfaction rather than the life-giving freedom from bondage type of love that He loves to lavish on us. He chose this nation, He tenderly offered her his protection and care. And she turned on Him. His words bleed pain. But His love is faithful, and He offers her a way back to Him more than once.

READ THIS BOOK.

My understanding of the Lord and His vast love for us has been blown away so far. I don't know if it's just because I better understand the concept of God's love like a husband now that I am married, or if it is simply that I never truly tried to grasp this concept. But my heart breaks for Him. My faith in Him is strengthened. I am reminded that he is FOR me, He CARES for my well-being. He desires my deepest affections and He reciprocates that love better than I ever will or I will ever find elsewhere. His word is living and active; it DEMADS to be spoken.  As Jeremiah states in chapter 20,  verse 5

"But if I say, 'I will not mention Him or speak anymore in His name,' His word is in my heart like a FIRE, a fire shut up in my bones. I am weary of holding it in; Indeed, I CANNOT."

READ THIS BOOK. Learn about His passion for YOU. His concern for YOU. His mighty power and His tender love... For YOU. Rest in Him today.

"But blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord,
whose confidence is in him.
He will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream.
It does not fear when the heat comes;
its leaves are always green.
It has no worries in a year of drought
and never fails to bear fruit."

Jeremiah 17:7-8
